Homicide Squad detectives have upgraded charges to murder against two men as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal assault that occurred in Narre Warren South last month, while police also continue investigating a separate violent incident involving a drive-by shooting at a shisha bar in the area.
According to investigators, emergency services were called to Strathaird Reserve in Narre Warren South at approximately 3:15 p.m. on June 12 following reports that a man had been assaulted. Responding paramedics treated a 63-year-old Clyde North man at the scene before transporting him to hospital with critical injuries.
Despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital on June 18. Following further investigation, Homicide Squad detectives have now upgraded the charges against two accused men from recklessly causing serious injury to murder.
The accused include a 21-year-old man of no fixed address and a 22-year-old man from Narre Warren South. Both men were initially charged shortly after the alleged assault and have remained in custody. Authorities confirmed that the pair will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 8 to face the upgraded charges.
Police have indicated that the individuals involved were known to one another, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation. No additional details regarding a possible motive have been released.
The charge upgrade comes amid heightened concern over violent incidents in the broader Narre Warren area. In a separate investigation, police are examining a late-night drive-by shooting at a Narre Warren shisha bar, where a gunman allegedly fired multiple shots into the building while patrons were inside. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in that incident, though it has raised concerns about public safety.
Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information related to either investigation to come forward. Detectives remain committed to establishing the full circumstances surrounding both incidents as legal proceedings move forward and the community seeks answers following the recent acts of violence.
